Jägermeister Rock:Liga
w/ Therapy? / Dúné / Portugal The Man
11.02.08 Bürgerhaus Stollwerck, Cologne
The Jägermeister Rock:Liga is a competitive event with three bands fighting for the favour of the audience. Biffy Clyro had to pull out of this tour due to a support slot with Queens Of The Stage. That's why Therapy? ended up on the bill.
Portugal The Man from Alaska opened the evening with their intricate blend of Modest Mouse and The Mars Volta, excellent band.
Next up were Dúné, seven very young musicians from Denmark who really got the crowd going with their indie dance pop.
I've seen Therapy? quite a lot over the past 17 years but I have to admit I've never seen a worse performance by them than that night in Cologne. Michael McKeegan was so pissed he fell to the floor while entering the stage and throughout the set he had to fully concentrate on standing on his two legs so couldn't hit the chords neither correctly nor in time. Andy and Neil tried their best to paper over the cracks of Michael's state but didn't really succeed. During Diane he went down again and finally had to leave stage so the gig was finished with a duo version of Screamager.
It's really a laugh that Therapy? finished second that night behind winners Portugal The Man.
