The Night Marchers / The Moriartees

John Reis is someone who always needed more than one band to live out his creativity. He owns the record label Swami and he was in such bands as Drive Like Jehu, Hot Snakes, Sultans and, of course, Rocket From The Crypt. But right now he's in only one band, The Night Marchers, and it was their first ever German show to promote their album See You In Magic.
But first came The Moriartees, a band from Cologne playing 60s rock and beat music. But they're doing it in such a traditional way that it gets quite boring after a while.
John Reis is one of the coolest guys in rock'n'roll. Like Eddie Spaghetti from the Supersuckers he upstages everyone but always does so tongue-in-cheek. So he's a perfect entertainer even if there's hardly anybody there to be entertained. Tonight less than 100 people showed up to get some kick-ass music but I guess none of them regretted going to see The Night Marchers. While on cd they sound more like a garage band, on stage the music turns into that powerful, heavy rock'n'roll Rocket From The Crypt were best known for. Maybe that's why the soulful Whose Lady R U? didn't get plaid and songs like I Wanna Deadbeat You were the highlights of the show. After about 50 minutes the band left the stage without giving an encore but leaving behind a bunch of satisfied listeners.
