The Get Up Kids (Posted Date: 24 Aug 2009, 12:32)

The Get Up Kids / Telegraphs / Mikroboy

20.08.09 Batschkapp, Frankfurt

They never come back? Forget it, they all come back...sooner or later.
This time it's The Get Up Kids who reunited and toured Germany again for the first time after over six years. It was the hottest day of the year in Frankfurt which kept most people outside the Batschkapp, so we missed both support acts Mikroboy and Telegraphs.
The tour is set to celebrate the tenth anniversary of Something To Write Home About and accordingly the band started with Holiday getting the crowd to sing along immediately. They only played a handful of songs from their last two albums, On A Wire and Guilt Show but also a brand new though not very memorable track. But my personal favourites were the three oldest songs from the setlist, Woodson, Mass Pike and Don't Hate Me. The band members all have gained some weight through the years, especially keyboarder James Dewees, but they still knew how to rock and obviously enjoyed themselves on stage.

The setlist:
Holiday
The One You Want
Coming Clean
Valentine
Woodson
I'm A Loner Dottie, A Rebel
Keith Case
Red Letter Day
Campfire Kansas
Holy Roman
No Love
Out Of Reach
Action And Action
Mass Pike
Walking On A Wire
---------------------------------------------
Close To Me (The Cure)
Don't Hate Me
Beer For Breakfast (The Replacements)
I'll Catch You
Ten Minutes
