Phillip Boa & The Voodooclub

10.03.09 Matrix, Bochum

I was a bit unsure whether really going to this concert. I've seen Phillip Boa numerous times over the past twenty years and always enjoyed his shows at the Zeche in Bochum. Unfortunately, he chose to play at the Matrix this year, a venue notorious for its bad sound.
The tour is labelled as "...play songs from the new album Diamonds Fall plus Best Of set" and that hit the mark. With the exception of Fiat Topolino he played the new album in full and mixed the setlist with old hits like Annie Flies the Lovebomber, This Is Michael or Container Love. As the new songs are a bit mellow these old tunes also helped getting the crowd going. And they did dance and sing along, especially to the final song Kill Your Ideals.
The sound was also better than expected but I still have a point of criticism. The tracks from Diamonds Fall sounded great but the hits were played too fast in my opinion and also the guitar work was a bit disappointing so I can only call this an average Boa show.
Next time play the Zeche again, please.
